Dr. S. K. Bhattacharya

Dr. Bhattacharya started his career in 1976 as physician in the Department of General Medicine at the prestigious N. R. S. Medical College and Hospital, Calcutta. In 1980, he joined National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED), Kolkata as a Research Officer and is currently, the Director of the institute. He is also the Director of the Indian Council of Medical Research ICMR Virus Unit, Kolkata. During his 20 years of research experience he has made significant research contribution in the clinical aspects of acute diarrheal diseases.

He was been awarded various fellowships including the Senior Research Fellowship of the Indian Council of Medical Research and NIH International Post-doctoral Fellowship. Dr. Bhattacharya has 194 papers in different National and International Journals. He has authored several books and is on the scientific advisory committee of several prestigious research institutes. Additionally, he is on the editorial board of World Journal of Gastroenterology (China) and Journal of Health Population and Nutrition (Bangladesh).

He has been a advisor and course facilitator for several national and international workshops including "Clinical Management of Acute Diarrheal Diseases (WHO/CDD)", "Epidemic Preparedness and setting-up of Diarrhea Treatment and Training Unit (UNICEF)", "Clinical Trials in Acute Diarrheal Diseases (WHO)", "Global Vaccine Research Forum (WHO)", "Gastroscopy techniques", and "Oral Rehydration Therapy".
